Why Catawampus Consulting?

In the last ten years of my professional career, one theme has been consistent in every organization I have worked for: if the organization and the leadership within it do not build policies, strategies, and a workplace culture that supports the employees within it, then that organization will see turnover, low retention rates, decreased productivity, and overall low employee satisfaction rates. Leadership needs to be open to new ideas, open to change, and open to the concept of investing in your employees.

Catawampus Consulting was born out of a burning desire to challenge the status quo. I firmly believe that the most successful organizations are those that prioritize their people. After all, without the employees, where would your organization be?

Investing in your employees is not just a choice, it's a necessity for the long-term success of your organization.

I have worked in three different newly created positions. The unique thing about working in a newly created position is that you have a list of desired outcomes the leadership would like to see from that position, but you are the one who has to figure out the tasks, duties, and responsibilities you need to have to achieve those outcomes. They do not know what you need to do to get there; you just need to get there.

One position I had involved evaluating retention and turnover within the organization and developing solutions to increase retention. When meeting with leadership, I explained to them that their policies are causing severe adverse impacts on the employees within the organization due to the different benefits, policies, and structures the contracts created for different job classifications within the organization. For this role to succeed, I asked them if they would be willing to work on rewriting policies to be more inclusive and develop equitable benefits for ALL employees so different classifications did not have different benefits.

I’m sure you can guess the outcome.

As an organization, you have the ability to develop policies, procedures, and strategies that create a people-first culture. If you are not willing to look within and make changes that can benefit your organization and your employees, then hiring someone to help you make changes within your organization will not benefit you.

When you start a small business, they tell you you need to have a 60-second elevator pitch to describe your business. Who is your ideal client? What services do you provide? What do people need to know about your business?

In pure Abbey style, I reject that suggestion. Because when I say I help small businesses with fractional HR support and the services I provide, that does not differentiate me from other consultant agencies.

If I do not know something, I will do a lot of research on it to better understand it.
